Every year, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) contacts personal taxpayers in, what is known as, a compliance check, which may also be referred to as a COP 11 tax enquiry.
Such compliance checks, which can begin up to 12 months after the filing date of the tax return, are designed to ensure that taxpayers pay the right amount of tax at the right time and receive the right allowances and tax reliefs. They may involve specific issues within a personal tax return or other document, or the whole return or document.
Although the enquiry may be relatively straightforward, few people feel completely comfortable dealing with HMRC on their own or have the expert knowledge of HMRC procedures and the experience required to manage the process.
By working with Taxation-Investigation, we can deal with the personal tax enquiry on your behalf, advising you on your options and keeping you up-to-date with progress.
We understand that a tax enquiry is a stressful experience and will work to achieve an acceptable outcome and mitigate any penalties due, quickly and cost-effectively.
